Building DeFi Asset Management on Optimism

At WakeUp Labs, one of the core goals behind Optimism as Venture Studio was to help strong teams move from concept to production helping them with technical resources.

This blog shares one concrete outcome of that initiative: the delivery of a live, OP-native DeFi asset management product, built and tested on Optimism as part of the Venture Studio program.

It highlights what was built, why it matters, and how the Optimism as Venture Studio model, executed by WakeUp Labs, enables real onchain products to reach production readiness.

From Concept to Production on Optimism

A recurring challenge in DeFi today is that promising asset management ideas often struggle to move beyond early concepts due to technical, product, and operational barriers.

Through the Venture Studio program, WakeUp Labs collaborated with a selected DeFi asset management project to provide product discovery, design, technical research, and development support, enabling the team to efficiently build and test a full platform on Optimism Mainnet.

The objective throughout the engagement was clear:

  • Support the full product lifecycle, from discovery to delivery

  • Align architecture and user experience with Optimism Mainnet

  • Deliver a complete, differentiated product designed beyond standard yield vault patterns, without relying on short-term incentives

The result is a fully developed DeFi asset management platform, including funds modules, portfolio views, successfully tested on Optimism Mainnet.

The project was developed in collaboration with DAMM Capital, the team behind the asset management product.

Why This Model works

Optimism as Venture Studio is not just about grants or advisory support. It is about hands-on execution and focused incubation.

In this case, the Venture Studio framework enabled:

  • Direct collaboration between builders and a dedicated execution partner

  • Continuous iteration from early discovery through implementation

  • Close alignment with Optimism Mainnet requirements and deployment flows

Rather than limiting support to guidance alone, the model enabled a single, high-impact DeFi project to reach production quality within the grant timeframe.

Technical Overview (High Level)

The delivered platform introduces an advanced DeFi infrastructure layer, expanding on-chain financial tooling and composability within the Optimism ecosystem.

DAMM Capital is not a typical yield aggregator. It relies on predefined mathematical models and historical backtesting to inform liquidity and portfolio behavior.

From a product and delivery perspective, the work included:

  • Full UX/UI design of the platform

  • Integration flows and frontend preparation for Optimism deployment

  • End-to-end testing on Optimism Mainnet

The platform has been fully delivered to the project team, who now holds ownership of the production deployment.

WakeUp Labs’ Role

Within the Venture Studio initiative, WakeUp Labs acted as the technical and product execution partner, supporting:

  • Product and technical discovery

  • UX/UI design

  • Development coordination and integration flows, integrating ERC-7540 fund interactions with account abstraction via Privy to support both crypto-native and non-crypto-native users

  • Documentation, progress tracking, and milestone verification

The focus throughout was not experimentation for its own sake, but delivering a complete product experience that could be tested on Optimism Mainnet and handed over for production deployment.

A Concrete Example of the Venture Studio Model

This project represents exactly what Optimism as Venture Studio aims to unlock:

  • Real products, not demos

  • End-to-end delivery within a defined timeframe

  • Strong collaboration between builders and execution partners

  • Projects supported all the way to production readiness

In this case, the collaboration with DAMM Capital illustrates how the Venture Studio model can support a DeFi asset management project from early discovery through Optimism Mainnet testing and handover.

Closing the Loop

This deployment marks the completion of a full Optimism as Venture Studio engagement: from early discovery and design, through hands-on development, to Optimism Mainnet testing and formal handover.

Following the completion of the Venture Studio engagement, DAMM Capital has moved the product into public production, announcing the launch of its OP-denominated asset management product on Optimism.

This project stands as a clear, end-to-end example of how Optimism as Venture Studio, executed by WakeUp Labs, can turn DeFi asset management ideas into production-ready systems that contribute to ecosystem growth.
